‘Salman And Sanjay Became Like Brothers’: Adil El Arbi And Bilall Fallah On Their Film 7 Dogs Ahead Of India Release.
For 7 Dogs directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, getting Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt on board for their international action film was almost too good to be true. As the film gears up for its India release on August 21, the filmmakers opened up about working with the two Bollywood superstars, their love for Indian cinema and why they hope 7 Dogs will be the beginning of more collaborations with Indian talent.
“For us, India is the biggest movie country in the world. So to have our movie coming out there, it’s a big honour. It’s also a big challenge,” the directors said in an interview.
The Bad Boys Franchise filmmaking duo admitted they were stunned when they were told they could work with Khan and Dutt.
“When His Excellency Turki Alalshikh said that we could work with Salman and Sanjay, I mean, we couldn’t believe it,” they recalled.
But the experience quickly went beyond simply working with two mega stars.
“Salman and Sanjay, they are super nice people, and they really go 100% for their role,” the directors said. “They became really like brothers.”
El Arbi and Fallah also said the actors’ experience proved invaluable on set. “They brought their knowledge and wisdom. So we as directors learned a lot also about Indian cinema,” they said.
One of their most memorable experiences was shooting the Mumbai sequence, which was filmed using a 360-degree camera. The sequence required Khan and Dutt to do more than act.
“Salman and Sanjay, they had to act, but they also had to be cameramen themselves and stuntmen themselves,” the directors revealed.
The filmmakers’ admiration for Indian cinema clearly extends beyond their two 7 Dogs stars. They have previously worked with Mohan Kapur on Ms. Marvel and said working with Indian actors is like “going to film school” because of their experience and passion for cinema.
For now, however, their focus is firmly on 7 Dogs and its India release. The filmmakers hope audiences don’t just turn up for Salman and Sanjay, but embrace the film’s larger international ensemble.
“I just hope this is an action entertaining movie,” they said. “I think people after the movie just had like a super great time.”
And judging by their experience, the directors would certainly like their Bollywood chapter to continue.
“We hope that in the future, we’ll be able to work with him and with Salman and Sanjay as soon as possible,” they said.
7 Dogs is set to release in India in English and Hindi on August 21.
